PJ North Shares Story Behind Fall Anthem, ‘Saturdays Are For the Boys’ [EXCLUSIVE]

PJ North is back with new music! The singer just dropped “Saturdays Are For the Boys,” inspired at least in part by fall’s favorite pastime, football.

“It’s really  funny how it all came together,” PJ North told Everything Nash. “I was at a write with just me and Tyler Anderson. We had just started writing at that point. We had finished one song. He was like, ‘I have this idea for this other song. What do you think about this?’ He played me the first couple lines which was, ‘A couple beers, some buddies and me / Headed east to Knoxville, Tennessee.’ I was like, ‘This is a hit.’ We got another write together, and I brought Frank Legeay in on it.”

The writers decided to make the song not only about football, but also about falling in love.

“We came up with this idea to really focus and zero in on college football and UT football, and what Saturdays and tailgating are all about,” PJ shared. “I was really pumped about the whole thing, and how it turned out. Frank’s like, ‘How do we flip it, where Saturdays are not only for the boys, but for these girls? This girl you’re in love with, you fall for her in the moment.’ That’s how we came up with the whole thing.

“It kind of all felt like it melded together,” he added. “I love college football, and it’s one of those things I was really pumped about. We got done with it, and I just knew it had to be another song that we did … It feels like one of those fall, tailgate songs and anthems. It’s a party song, but it’s also a love song. It’s one of those things that I wanted to put out, and I’m super pumped about it.”
