Riley Green Opens Up About His New Role on 'Marshals,' And His Future in Acting

Riley Green just made his acting debut in the new TV show, Marshals. It’s actor and singer Luke Grimes who got Green to appear with him in Marshals, starring Grimes.

“Luke has become a great friend of mine, and he was like, ‘You should really try acting,'” Green recalls to Extra. “What a great way to get introduced to that world.”

Grimes confirms that he played a pivotal role in Green being cast in the Yellowstone spin-off.

“Riley and I were doing a write together,” Grimes recalls on SiriusXM‘s The Highway. “He was talking about wanting to act, and this was right when Marshals was sort of coming together. I thought, ‘Man, that’d be kind of cool if he was in my show.’ I knew what it was going to be, and I knew we were getting into that Navy SEAL stuff. I was like, ‘He could be like an old team buddy or something. He’s got that look to him, like he could be a team guy.’”

Green plays a troubled former Navy SEAL named Garrett, who used to work with Special Deputy U.S. Marshal Kayce Dutton, a role played by Grimes.

“He was on a team with Luke,” Green shares. “He’s trouble. He’s got some issues, and he shows back up. He’s struggling to deal with all of that.”

Green just debuted a new song, “My Way,” which is part of a future episode of Marshals. Although Green plays and sings on the show, it’s not central to his character.

“I get to play a little bit,” he reveals. “It certainly wasn’t built around my character, but Garrett does play a little guitar.”

What Riley Green Says About His First Acting Role, in ‘Marshals’

Up until now, Green’s acting has been limited to what he does for his music videos. An early scene involves Green suffering PTSD, waking up from a nightmare.

“They threw it on me so fast I didn’t have to get nervous about it,” Green tells USA Today. “I wanted this to be a real acting gig, and I was lucky. This character has a lot of range, and there’s a lot of emotion. He’s a really kind of damaged guy.”

Call it fortuitous that Green’s real-life unshaven look and signature mustache made him already look the part of Garrett, even if it did become a little bothersome for the singer.

“The tough part for me through these two months of filming was I couldn’t wake up and shave in the morning if I wanted to,” says Green. “I’m pretty bad. If it’s hot out, I just shave it off randomly.”

Green’s country music career is at an all-time high. But he isn’t ruling out a more permanent job as an actor in the future.

“I would really enjoy being able to go, and get on set, and kind of get into that world, and stay there,” Green says. “And just be an actor for a little while. I think that would be something I’d really enjoy.”

Marshals airs on Sunday nights on CBS.
