Russell Dickerson Talks New Music, Touring, Fatherhood and More [EXCLUSIVE]

Russell Dickerson‘s eponymous third studio album is out. The record, which includes his Top 15 “She Likes It” collaboration with  Jake Scott, is the most personal one he has ever released — and his favorite so far.

“It’s 15 of my favorite songs I’ve written since my last album,” Dickerson tells Everything Nash. “No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Just straight up 15 bangers. I wasn’t like, ‘Oh, we need a sad song here,’ or, ‘We need a blah, blah blah.’ I was like, ‘These are 15 songs that I can’t not record.”

The Tennessee native co-wrote all of the songs on Russell Dickerson, although that wasn’t necessarily his intent from the beginning.

“I had some songs on hold that I wanted to record, and as I would play them for my tight group of people, they were just like, ‘I feel like you have better,'” Dickerson recalls. “I am not precious about writing every song on my album, by any means. I want to record outside songs. This community here … there are a million hit songs sitting in people’s folders right now.”

Dickerson is currently on his She Likes It Tour, which will continue into 2023, and be followed by likely another tour after that.

“We’re gonna start off with a continuation of the She Likes It Tour,” Dickerson says. “We’re gonna do part two. I don’t stop touring. I never stop touring, ever.”

Dickerson will be joined for most of the tour dates by his wife, Kailey, and two-year-old son, Remington. Although Dickerson loves being an artist, his favorite times are when he gets to be with his little boy.

“It’s so fun right now,” Dickerson boasts, sharing a story to prove how much he cherishes his time with his son. “I had Remington and we were just wrestling around,  roughhousing, sliding down the slide and everything. And he goes down for a nap at 1:00 usually, and it was like 3:30 and Kailey called and was like, ‘Why do I hear Remington in the background?’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God. I forgot to put him down for a nap.’ We were just hanging and vibing, and I completely forgot to put him down for his nap.”

Skipping naptime aside, Dickerson is rocking his role as a parent, soaking up as many sweet moments with Remington as he can get.

“It’s the best thing in the world,” Dickerson shares. “We’re best friends, and I love every second we get to hang out and kiss his face and wrestle. It’s hard. He is two, but it’s absolutely the best thing in the world.”
