Tim McGraw might look like he eats healthy all the time and works out every day, but that is surprisingly not true. The 58-year-old reveals he does actually eat junk food on occasion, and tries not to spend every day at the gym.
“You gotta have one day of recovery,” he tells his record label. “Sometimes I don’t take a day off because I know that there’s some time coming up where I’ll be forced to have a couple of days off, but you gotta allow yourself a cheat day every now and then. Once a month or so is not too bad. If I get a chance to have a cheeseburger or a chili dog every now and then, I’m gonna have one.
“My favorite probably is pot roast and rice and gravy and peas and cornbread,” he continues. “But I try to earn it on that day. So, if I know I’m gonna have a cheeseburger or a chili dog, I try to put a little extra work in. But I love my cheat days and I love a day off every now and then and just sort of binge watch somethin’ on TV.”
When Tim McGraw Started Working Out
McGraw quit drinking in 2008, when he realized his drinking was beyond what he was able to control on his own.
“I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8:00 in the morning and thinking, ‘I have to wake the kids up,’” McGraw recalls to Esquire. “I went straight to my wife and said, ‘This is where I’m at.’ I was scared. She just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life.”
Once McGraw cut alcohol out of his life, he determined to be the healthiest he can be, which is when he started working out.
“That’s where my workout program came into play,” he says (via People). “It took the place of alcohol and it is really important.”
McGraw even travels with a gym when he is on tour, which his band also uses. He admits that he might go overboard in his fitness regime, but for McGraw, it works.
“I’ll be the first to admit I take it to extremes,” he tells Men’s Health. “‘I’m not one of those people who can sorta half-a– something.”
Tim McGraw’s New Song
McGraw just released a new song, “King Rodeo,” which he wrote with Tom Douglas. The Louisiana native debuted the song at the inaugural Music City Rodeo, held in May. He released “King Rodeo” as his current single, “Paper Umbrellas,” with Parker McCollum is in the Top 40.
“We’ve been working on a new record, and we thought that this song was appropriate for the night,” McGraw shares. The song says in part, “So the spotlight’s faded, you moved a little past your prime / Don’t let ’em make you jaded, ’cause you can’t turn back time / Tomorrow’s like a woman, you can’t understand / Lady Luck’s been good to you ,so take her by the hand / Hey King Rodeo.”
