2020 ACM Awards: Dan + Shay Win for Duo of the Year

Dan + Shay have another trophy to add to their massive collection! Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney won the ACM Award for Duo of the Year. The award was presented to them by Clint Black and his wife, Lisa Hartman.

“This is amazing. What a great way to start off the night,” Dan began. “First of all, I know I’m gonna start rambling, because these things make me so nervous … The Academy of Country Music, thank you so much for voting for us. This is amazing. We’re so proud to be part of the country music family. The country music fans are the best fans in the whole wide world. Thank you guys for continuing to support us and make our dreams come true. We love you.”

Dan + Shay just dropped a new song, “I Should Probably Go to Bed.” The song was produced by Dan during quarantine, with Dan also playing every instrument on the track.

“We wrote part of this song in Los Angeles during Grammy week but finished it at my house, on my piano, kind of by accident,” Dan said. “Shay [Mooney] had come over to record vocals on another song that we had written. We took a break, went downstairs, started singing this song, and realized this song needs a big ending.

“So we really went for it,” he added. “Shay delivered one of my favorite vocal performances of all time. We’re so proud that this is our new single.”

Dan + Shay were also nominated for Song of the Year, with that trophy going to Old Dominion for “One Man Band, Video of the Year, with that award going to Thomas Rhett for “Remember You Young,” and Music Event of the Year, with Miranda Lambert and her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour opening acts winning that trophy, for “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”
