2023 People’s Choice Country Awards: HARDY and Lainey Wilson Win Video of the Year

HARDY and Lainey Wilson are the Video of the Year winners at the People’s Choice Country Awards! The two won for their dramatic and powerful  “wait in the truck” collaboration.

“I’ve been proud of a lot of things in Nashville, but I can honestly say, all of the songs I’ve written, all the projects, videos, whatever I’ve been a part of, this music video is what I am most proud of, and the thing that I truly feel like I hang my hat on in Nashville,” HARDY said. “So thank y’all for voting for this. Lainey, you acted your a– off. I believed it and was intimidated the entire time. You were incredible. Thank you.”

Wilson, who already won the People’s Choice Country Awards for Female Artist and Collaboration Song, the latter for her “Save Me” duet with Jelly Roll, praised HARDY for inviting her to be part of the song and video.

“First of all, thank you for asking me to be a small part of the song,” Wilson said. “I knew the song was special when you sent it to me last summer, in the middle of the Nashville airport. But I knew it was really special, top of the year. It was January; we were somewhere out west. We were doing our club tour, and this lady on the front row, as I was singing the chorus over and over again, she just kept saying, ‘Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.’

“And in that moment,” Wilson added, “I knew that this song was going to be bigger than we were, and I’m so proud to be a small part of it. Thank y’all so much for loving the song.”

Earlier this year, HARDY and Wilson also won the CMT Music Award for Collaborative Video of the Year, for “wait in the truck.”

“I remember the day that Jordan Schmidt, who I wrote the song with, sent me back the demo for the song,” HARDY recalled at the time. “And I was so inspired that I wrote the entire script if you will, for the music video, because I knew how powerful the song would be.”

“wait in the truck,” from HARDY’s  the mockingbird & THE CROWwas the fastest-rising single of HARDY’s career to date.

“I’m just so happy a song like this still has a place in country music,” HARDY said when the song hit No. 1. “Thanks to everyone involved for taking this song to the top, and for believing in this one.”
