Cody Johnson Releases 'The Fall' Music Video [WATCH]

Cody Johnson just released the video for his latest single, “The Fall.” The song, written by Bobby Pinson, Ray Fulcher and Jeremy Stover, is on Johnson’s latest Leather Deluxe Edition.

The video for “The Fall,” directed once again by Johnson’s frequent collaborator, Dustin Haney, features world champion bullfighter Cody Webster.

“The Fall” follows Johnson’s recent No. 1 hit, “I’m Gonna Love You,” with Carrie Underwood.

The Story Behind “The Fall”

The video for “The Fall” shows life as a cowboy and a country music superstar. It’s a message that goes well with the song, according to Johnson.

“When I heard the song, it sounded like the story of a lot of different people,” Johnson tells Billboard. “It is kind of cowboy, and it is authentic to me, as ‘The ride was worth the fall.’ … ‘I’d climb back on again.’ But it also has this relativity to a lot of other different people and their story. It’s a very unique thing that I couldn’t ignore.”

Johnson has his fans to thank for making “The Fall” a single, since that was not his original intent.

“It was not a single,” Johnson shares. “We hadn’t pushed it, and I started noticing when I played ‘The Fall,’ as soon as I started playing the guitar [intro], every cell phone in the audience came up. After the first chorus, when I sing ‘The ride was worth the fall,’ the crowd goes insane.”

Why Cody Johnson Is Not Touring For the Remainder of 2025

Johnson recently made the heartbreaking announcement that he would not be touring for the remainder of 2025, after undergoing surgery to deal with a burst eardrum.

“Doctor said the surgery went great,” Johnson says. “Should make a full recovery with the proper rehab. I’ve got a lot of follow-up doctor’s appointments to go yet. I just wanted to say, thanks for all the texts, the calls, the prayer requests, all the good wishes. I’ve really felt the love. So, I’m gonna do my best to recharge. And I can’t wait to see you guys in 2026.”

When announcing he was canceling the rest of his tour dates for the year, the Texan said the burst eardrum came after a prolonged illness.

“It is with a very heavy heart I have to share the remainder of this year’s concert performances will not be able to happen,” Johnson said at the time. “While battling a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection, I burst my eardrum. The severity of the rupture means I must undergo immediate surgery. The healing process will take many weeks, and it is not possible for me to sing during this time.

“Without the surgery my downtime could be months,” he added. “I pray for full healing so I can get well and return to doing what I love. Thank you COJO Nation for the love and support now, and always.”

No word yet if Johnson will appear at the 2025 CMA Awards, where he is nominated for four trophies, including Entertainer of the Year.
