Dolly Parton Praises Lainey Wilson: 'You Are An Inspiration to Me'

Lainey Wilson just received an incredible new honor. Wilson was just named one of USA TODAYs 2026 Women of the Year, in “recognition of women who have made a significant impact in their communities and beyond,” per the outlet. According to Wilson’s good friend and musical hero, Dolly Parton, there is no one more deserving than Wilson.

“I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award than Lainey Wilson,” Parton tells USA TODAY. “She is a prime example of talent, hard work, and a soft heart. She told me once that I have been an inspiration to her. Well, guess what Lainey? You are an inspiration to me as well. Congratulations girlfriend! I will always love you.”

Wilson has been vocal about her admiration for Parton, who recently invited Wilson to join her on “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” along with Reba McEntire, Miley Cyrus, and Queen Latifah.

“I think all of you probably know how important Dolly is to me and my journey,” Wilson shares at a recent media event. “And how important she is to so many people. She has definitely been somebody that I’ve looked to when I think about, can I do this? Can I not? Should I do this? Should I not? Should I say this? Should I not? She somehow always does it with grace and everything. She’s been a huge pillar for me.”

What Lainey Wilson Says About Her Biggest Inspiration

Parton is one of Wilson’s biggest role models, but she isn’t the only one. The Louisiana native is inspired by all kinds of different people, and not just famous country stars.

“People in general inspire me, hearing their stories,” Wilson acknowledges. “My family inspires me. The town that I grew up in inspires me, getting to travel the world and meet people from all different walks of life. I feel like I kind of pull inspiration from a little bit of everywhere.”

Growing up in the tiny town of Baskin, Wilson knew early on she was destined for a life far beyond the rural landscape that surrounded her.

“I feel like everybody in my town is just who they are, unapologetically themselves,” Wilson says. “The truth is, I didn’t know there was any other way. I knew that I was signing up to tell stories and make people feel something. I sure would have hated to have been anything other than myself.”

With awards, sold-out tours, chart-topping singles, and more, Wilson is so grateful for all she has accomplished, even if she isn’t willing to take all of the credit for her success.

“I’ve had a lot of those moments where I’m like, ‘Thank you, God,'” Wilson says. “To tell you the truth, it goes back to me finally getting to Nashville. I’m like, ‘Thank you, God. I’m here. I’ve been preparing for the race. I’ve got to enter it.'”
