Alexandra Kay Opens Up About Her Relationship With Rocko Beall, Calls Him Her ‘Soulmate’

Alexandra Kay is giving new insight into her relationship with her guitar player, Rocko Beall. Dating for two years, Kay reveals that Beall actually turned her down, at least initially.

“Rocko’s been my guitar player for, I would say, probably five years now,” Kay tells radio station 94.9 The Bull. “I actually met Rocko before I even got married to my ex-husband. We were just dating. And I hired him to be in my band. I used to call him my little brother, which is really creepy now. Very weird.

“I don’t still do that, I promise,” Kay adds with a laugh. She goes on to say that she got married and divorced, which was “really, really tough.”

“And about a year later, I was going out all the time, having fun, and dating again,” Kay says. “One night I had some drinks with the guys backstage, and I was like, ‘Rocko’s kind of cute.’ My manager was like, ‘What? No.’ And then, I just started flirting with him and stuff. He turned me down.”

Beall turned her down, but not because of lack of interest, but because of his professionalism.

“He said, ‘I love this job so much, and I love you so much, and that would get so messy.  I don’t want to lose my job,'” Kay recalls. “I said, ‘Okay.’ We tried to just be friends. … He’s my soulmate.”

What Alexandra Kay Says About Rocko Beall

Kay has been vocal about her love for Beall, a relationship that progressed quickly because they were already such good friends.

“Honestly, I didn’t look at him like that. I didn’t. I was single for the first time in 11 years, and he was very reliable,” Kay recalls on Joel Madden’s Artist Friendly podcast. “He was very sweet, very kind. He’s great. He’s like one of the best guys I’ve ever met. He really is. He’s an incredible person. To be completely honest, one night, we were having beers backstage, like one will do after a show. And I looked over at Beth, and I was like, ‘Rocko’s kind of cute.’ She was like, ‘What?’ I was like, ‘Maybe I’ve just had too much.’”

Once Kay realized she was developing feelings for Beall, she quickly fell hard for him.

“I feel like I fell in love with him before I ever even liked him, and had a crush on him,” Kay concedes. “It was just, I loved him so much as a person, as a human, as a friend. And then, when I started to feel that romantic connection and that attraction to him like that, ’cause he was single and I was single at the same time. We spent so much time together. That’s when I started to look at him in a different light.”

As soon as Kay started dating Beall, she realized how wrong her first husband was for her.

“When we got together, the really cool thing was that, if you really unpack my last record, a lot of it was me feeling in my relationship like every little bit of love and affection was like pulling it out,” Kay says, referring to her debut All I’ve Ever Known album. “And honestly feeling like I was high-maintenance when it came to love. I remember my ex used to tell me things like, ‘You need to stop watching Instagram reels,’ and ‘Real relationships aren’t like that.’

“When Rocko and I got together, he just proved to me in such a short time, and still does a year later, that I wasn’t asking too much,” she adds. “I was just asking the wrong person. … I am happier than I’ve ever been.”
