Amy Grant Undergoes Heart Surgery to Correct Congenital Heart Condition

Our thoughts and prayers are with Amy Grant, who underwent heart surgery on Wednesday, June 3. The gospel singer announced in February she was having the surgery, which is to correct a heart condition she had since birth, but only became aware of this year.

“Since February is heart health awareness month, I want to send a shout out to my doctor, John Bright Cage. He suggested I have a check up because of my Dad’s heart history,” Amy shared in a tweet earlier this year. “As always, I am feeling great, but the battery of tests he put me through show that I have had a heart condition since birth.

“The first good news is that I am completely asymptomatic,” she continued. “The second good news is that it’s fixable, so instead of concerts and camping trips this summer, I am going to take care of my heart.”

Later, a post was shared on Amy’s social media pages, revealing that, thankfully, her surgery went well.

“Thank you for so many prayers today,” the post read. “Amy is out of surgery and the doctor said it could not have gone better. We would ask for continued prayers over the days, weeks and months to come as she makes a full recovery… xo”

Amy is married to country singer, Vince Gill. The couple tied the knot 20 years ago, although Amy admits she was in love with him long before they even started dating, even though she may not have known it at the time.

“I think that a part of me loved him instantly,” Amy told ABC News, recalling their first encounter. “I felt like I knew him instantly. I was so moved by him as a human being that I went up behind him and just hugged him as hard as I could while he was singing. I just said, ‘I just needed to hug you all night.'”
