Nashville’s Beloved Marche Restaurant in East Nashville Permanently Closes

For more than a decade Marche Artisan Foods, known to locals as Marché’s has been a favorite for those in East Nashville, as well as all over Middle Tennessee. But after struggling first with the aftermath for the March tornadoes, followed by the closes of businesses due to COVID-19, the popular eatery announced it will not reopen.

“Dear friends, after 13 years we are sad to let you know that Marche will not be reopening its doors,” the restaurant announced in a statement shared on social media. “We want very much to thank you for your support over the years. The tornado and the ongoing battle against Covid-19. Marche’s concept does not translate easily to a to-go platform. Without 100% occupancy we would lose revenue. The lease comes to term at the end of the year and we are uncomfortable making a further commitment in these uncertain times.”

All hope is not lost, however. Margot McCormack, who owns both Marché’s and Margot, will keep Margot open, and offer some of the food Marché’s was known for at the second location.

“We may be losing the physical space but we are not losing the essence of Marche,” the statement continued. “Beginning soon you will be able to get peach ricotta tartines, French toast and cafe au lait at Margot. Served by the same Marche staff! Thank you again! We look forward to seeing you soon!”

A GoFundMe account was created for the staff of both Marché’s and Margot to help cover their expenses while the restaurant recovered from the tornado. To date, more than $41,000 has been raised.

Marché’s is one of several restaurants that has been forced to close due to the challenges in recent months, including Antonio’s, Sea Salt and Shalimar. Margot is open for some indoor seating, as well as to-go orders. Find more information at MargotCafe.com.
