Brantley Gilbert, Jelly Roll to Release Joint EP: ‘We Clicked So Well’

Brantley Gilbert and Jelly Roll have a new project coming out, together! The two hitmakers are working on a joint EP, following the success of Gilbert’s collaboration with Jelly Roll on “Son Of The Dirty South” song, from Gilbert’s latest So Help Me God album.

“We’re working on a EP with Jelly Roll,” Gilbert shares with his record label. “We went and got in the studio and basically lived there for a week, and a lot of good stuff came out of that. I don’t know that we’ll release all of them right now, but we are working on like a little EP to put out, ’cause ‘Son of the Dirty South’ was so fun. We clicked so well, and we just hit it off. And it works on stage, it works through speakers, so we felt like we wanted to do some more. Plus I just enjoy working with the dude, man. He is solid.”

Gilbert previously said that the new set of tunes with him and Jelly Roll would reflect their shared, and eclectic, musical influences.

“This album that we put together, this EP that we put together, literally covers every base. I mean, we both went into our little bag of tricks across the board,” Gilbert tells Country Now. “So there’s a little bit of everything on it. When you hear this project, it will blow your mind. I could play you one song and then play you another one, and you can say, in million years, do not ever put that on the same album.”

Gilbert will release So Help Me God (Deluxe Edition) on April 21. The record includes all of the songs on the original project, plus five new tracks, all co-written by Gilbert.

“We’ve always been a little outside of the box when it comes to writing and recording,” Gilbert says of the record. “It’s not necessarily something we’ve done on purpose, but it tends to happen because we always try to serve the song as it takes shape rather than shaping the song to serve us.

“If a song is asking for a harder edge, let’s do that,” he adds. “If it feels a little more introspective, let’s lean into that. This album intersects across a lot of different genres, and we’re proud to say that it’s something that happened naturally.”

Gilbert’s current single, “Heaven By Then,” which features Blake Shelton and Vince Gill, is out now. Find music and tour dates, and pre-order So Help Me God (Deluxe Edition) at BrantleyGilbert.com.
