Brantley Gilbert has a new record, out now. The 41-year-old just released Sins Of The Father, Gilbert’s eighth studio album.
“I’ve gotten comfortable with uncomfortable conversations, and I do have a story to tell,” Gilbert says. “The stuff behind me is ugly, but God has blessed me immensely, and I’ve gotten to a place where I’m centered on being a good dad and husband. There’s no regrets. Everything made me who I am today. But in sharing that story? Man, I may help somebody dodge that shi–y road.”
Included on Sins Of The Father is “The Addiction,” a song Gilbert wrote with Andy Albert, Drew Parker, and Andrew Baylis. Written as a tribute to his wife, Amber, “The Addiction” says, “She’s the rails on the lines I ride between / She keeps me rollin’ / Hell lost the hold it had on me / When that angel stole it / She’s the only high I’m chasing / The one thing I wake up craving / / She makes me the man I wanna be / She’s the addiction that keeps me clean.”
“That song is the truth,” Gilbert, who has been sober since 2011, says. “I do feel that way about my wife and kids, and there’s salvation there for me. If it wasn’t for them, would I still be on the wagon? It’s doubtful.”
When speaking about the record on social media, Gilbert says Sins Of The Father is easily his most personal project to date.
“These 15 songs are the most honest thing I’ve ever made,” the Georgia native says. “Every song tells a different part of the journey from the highs, the lows, the mistakes, the redemption, the faith, and the people who gave me a reason to keep fighting.”

Brantley Gilbert Duets With Jelly Roll
Also included on Sins Of The Father is “Begging for Change,” a song he sings with Jelly Roll. The two wrote “Begging for Change” with Brock Berryhill and Andrew Baylis.
“That’s one of those songs like ‘One Hell of an Amen’ where you know it’s going to resonate,” Gilbert says. “Nobody wakes up one morning, like, ‘You know what? I want to be an alcoholic or a drug addict.’ I’ve been in treatment with billionaires, and I’ve been in treatment with homeless people – because addiction and homelessness, those are the two things in life that really are non-biased in any way, form or fashion. That song became a responsibility.”
