Carrie Underwood Was ‘Laughing and Crying’ After Hearing Isaiah Sing on ‘My Gift’

Carrie Underwood‘s upcoming Christmas album, My Gift, includes a special duet, with her five-year-old, Isaiah. Her oldest son joins his famous mom on “Little Drummer Boy,” and she couldn’t be prouder of how well he did.

“I was in the booth with him, and trying to get him to access all his little five-year-old emotions, which he can totally do on his own,” Carrie recalled on the Today Show, admitting that she might have been a bit of a “stage mom” throughout the day. “When I heard the song back with his sweet little voice on it, I was laughing and crying. Just so many emotions. I’m so proud of him.”

Carrie got the title of the album from the storyline of “Little Drummer Boy,” with a child only being able to offer his talent to the king.

“The gift of music is such a blessing in my life, and I really want to give that gift back to Jesus,” Carrie shared. “It just seemed to make sense to me. Isaiah did such a great job on that song. I was the proudest mom in the world.”

The Oklahoma native started recording My Gift before the coronavirus pandemic, not realizing how much she would personally need the songs she was singing.

“We were lucky enough to get it started at the end of last year. I feel like that’s really the only way we were truly able to pull it off …We found new ways to make it work. I didn’t want to let this year stop us, so we made the album. To be honest, it was such a blessing to me, to be able to go in and sing these happy, positive songs, in this year. It was something I needed, and hopefully people can make it a soundtrack to their Christmas this year, and just be happy. Put a smile on their face, and celebrate the things that are good around them.”

The 37-year-old acknowledges it wasn’t easy finishing the record virtually, but in the end, the challenges are what made My Gift even more special for her.

“I’m so proud of the music that we were able to create, but, also, we were able to create it this year, through all the obstacles,” Carrie said. “We just want to bring some Christmas joy to people, so I’m super excited.”

Carrie just announced an upcoming Christmas TV special, airing on HBO Max, where she will perform all of the songs from My Gift with a live orchestra and choir. Order My Gift by visiting Carrie’s website.
