Carrie Underwood Was ‘So Proud’ to Have Son Isaiah on Upcoming Christmas Album

Carrie Underwood‘s upcoming Christmas album, My Gift, will be released on September 25. The 11-song record includes a collaboration with her oldest son, 5-year-old Isaiah, on “The Little Drummer Boy,” and she couldn’t be prouder of her little boy.

“It was wonderful to have Isaiah be a part of what I love. Having that moment,” Carrie shared in a virtual press conference at the 2020 ACM Awards. “I was like, ‘I don’t know how he’s going to do. I don’t know.’ He was super excited to be there, if nothing else, he’ll have a fun day, seeing what Mommy does. It was such a great moment for me as a mom to share something that I really love to do, and he ended up being really great in the studio. I was so proud.”

Carrie shares Isaiah and his younger brother, 1-year-old Jacob, with her husband, Mike Fisher. The two recently opened up about their relationship in the four-week web series, God & Country.

“Like many families and couples, everybody’s gone through it in some way,” Carrie reflected. “Just to be able to share our experiences that maybe some other people could relate to, and know that they’re not alone. I think that was such a great opportunity for us to share our story. And it was therapeutic too. You don’t get to just kind of freely speak a lot of times. You’re in some kind of promo mode, or you’re on a red carpet, and you just don’t really get the chance to go deeper, so that you can share your heart. It was a great time for that, a great day for that.

“We were crying all day long, but the response has been so great,” she added. “People just saying that it helps to hear somebody else’s story, and know that we feel the same thing, and I’m not alone. That can be the greatest gift sometimes.”

Carrie was recently crowned the ACM Awards Entertainer of the Year, a title she shares with Thomas Rhett, after the first-ever tie in that category. The American Idol alum also performed a stunning medley of hits from some of country music’s biggest female legends, including Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and more, but says she will likely never see herself as iconic as the women she honored.

“I don’t think I can ever look at myself like that,” said the singer. “I feel like a tourist still. I’m waiting for the day that — I always say I’m waiting for people to figure me out, and leave me behind or something. I will never look at myself the way I or anybody else should look at those women that, I got to sing their songs tonight, as well as so many more … I’m always really glad to hear when people like what I do. I know I’ve gotten to talk to Gabby Barrett a bit, because we came up the same way. I would love to be able to give advice anyway I can.”
