Chris Young Credits Fans With Convincing Him to Release ‘If That Ain’t God’

Chris Young‘s new single, “If That Ain’t God,” was released on Friday, July 3, but he isn’t taking much of the credit for choosing to release the track. The Tennessee native says it’s his fans who convinced him to release the faith-based song, which will be on his upcoming Raised on Country album, after he posted a snippet of it on social media.

“It doesn’t matter if I love it,” Chris told People. “As far as making something a single, you really want everybody else to be just as excited about it as you are. It was really cool seeing the level of response that I got from people [about ‘If That Ain’t God’]. So being able to put it out there and make it the new single off the record and have something they haven’t heard yet is pretty awesome.”

“If That Ain’t God” is just part of what Chris says will likely be his biggest record to date, with more songs on it than on any of his previous seven projects, including another one, “Tonight We’re Dancing,” which he says might surprise people.

“It’s just a really, really cool song and a really different vibe,” Chris noted. “Really steel-heavy and just something I fell into with them. We were writing it, and I was like, ‘Man, I think this is going to go on the album.'”

Chris signed with his longtime record label, RCA Records, shortly after winning Season 4 of Nashville Star in 2006, and has been moving full-speed ahead ever since then.

“I’m really lucky that as of this year I’ve been on RCA for 14 years,” Chris acknowledged. “It’s just wild to think about that. I’m never going to forget the first time I heard [my] song on the radio. So anytime you put out a new single it’s a big deal. I’ve been so incredibly lucky and so incredibly blessed by so many things that have happened in my career. And being able to have a song like this that’s definitely a weighty message, a heavy message, but a positive one is awesome.”
