Chris Young is sharing the story behind his romantic new song, “What She Sees In Me.” Written by Young, along with Christian Davis Stalnecker, Kyle Fishman, Ray Fulcher and Josh Hoge, the song is from Young’s latest Young Love & Saturday Nights album, out now.

“What She Sees In Me is a song that honestly got started by a couple of my friends, and I very rarely jump in after something’s been started,” Young shares. “I like to be there from the very, very beginning. But before they got too far along, my buddy Josh, who called me, was like, ‘Dude, I think you’ll crush this. This sounds like you. I love this idea. Check this out. And if you want to finish it with us, you can finish it with us.’ And so I wrote a second verse and like sort of a bridge idea and sent it back to them. And he was like, ‘Yes, you’re in. Come on. Let’s do this.'”

Young has  built his career in large part with romantic songs like “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song),” “You,” “I’m Comin’ Over” and more. But even he knew “What She Sees In Me” was something special.

“[It’s a] beautiful, beautiful love song,” Young says. “And I think it says what a lot of people would say, when you’re looking at someone that you’re so massively in love with. Like, I still don’t see what they see in me because I think they are just the pinnacle of perfection.“

Young Love & Saturday Nights is Young’s first record since Famous Friends was released in 2021. While he didn’t necessarily plan on waiting three years between projects, the Tennessee native was willing to wait as long as necessary to make the project exactly what he wanted it to be.

“I wanted this album to be special. I had a lot of time to work on this record, even though patience is not my strong suit,” Young explains. “I decided, ‘Hey, let’s change things up a little bit.’ There are songs on here that I didn’t write. There are songs on here that I co-wrote. There are songs that I produced by myself. There are songs I produced with my friends. And I really was just trying to find a lot of things that I wanted to say.”

Young Love & Saturday Nights is also the biggest album of Young’s career, and the one he is the most proud of.

“Young Love & Saturday Nights is one of the craziest processes of making music that I’ve ever had my life,” Young says. “I could not be more proud of this album 18 songs biggest project I’ve ever done. And so many great songwriters, producers that join me on this. And very, very proud of this. Cannot wait for everybody to hear all the songs.”
