Clay Walker Remains Hopeful While Battling MS During Coronavirus Pandemic

While most everyone has some concerns about contracting COVID-19, those fears are multiplied for Clay Walker, since he also has multiple sclerosis (MS). The 50-year-old has increased risks because of having MS, which is why he is taking every precaution to stay safe right now.

“I decided to call my multiple sclerosis doctor a few weeks back when this coronavirus thing really got going,” Clay told People. “He basically told me that having MS means that my mortality rate, if I did in fact contract COVID-19, would be twice that of a normal person. I didn’t know that, but I do now.”

Still, Clay remains unafraid, especially since his life has already turned out much better than he anticipated when he was first diagnosed.

“I was once told that I’d live my life in a wheelchair, so I have faced my share of bad news and quite frankly, mortality,” Clay said. “You look it in the face and make some decisions about life going forward.”

Those decisions include releasing new music. Clay’s new is single “Easy Goin.'” The song is from an upcoming new album, and was inspired by women in his past, who all helped lead him, in one way or another, to where he is today.

“There’s just a handful of girls that I think about when I write songs,” Clay, who has been married to his wife, Jessica, since 2007, told Taste of Country.  “They were experiences that I had — some of them I was wrong, and every now and then she was wrong. But I finally got it right, and that’s something that feels great.”

Clay is eager to share his new music with his fans, but his first priority is making sure he, and his loved ones, stay safe.

“The fact is that it’s impossible that we are not all going to be exposed to this at some point,” admitted the singer. “I never thought there would be a day when I would be buying a mask instead of a guitar. But I won’t be going without a mask at the moment. I’m going to do my part to stay safe like we all should.”
