CMA Awards 2023: Brothers Osborne Win Vocal Duo of the Year

Brothers Osborne are continuing their reign as the CMA Awards Vocal Duo of the Year. The sibling duo, made up of John and TJ Osborne, won the trophy every year for the last six years.

“We’re shocked every year, honestly, when this happens, I thought with the way the night was done that Lainey Wilson and HARDY were going to win this award,” TJ said with a laugh, referring to Wilson’s nine nominations and HARDY‘s four nods. “So it’s a huge shock to be here tonight … Thank you to the CMAs. Thank you to the fans. We are absolutely living our dream. Thanks for letting us do that.”

“I wanna say this: I was a nerd growing up,” John added. “I didn’t have a lot of friends. I spent my whole life learning how to play music and write songs. You all make me feel like the cool kid every year. And that means the world to me.”

Brothers Osborne just released their eponymous fourth studio album. The record includes their current single, “Nobody’s Nobody.”

“John and I have really shared so much of our personal lives since the release of Skeletons,” TJ shared with Everything Nash and other outlets during a virtual media event. “And I guess we didn’t realize when we created that, that there were some sort of barriers there that maybe we didn’t realize and certainly didn’t want there. And this time around, while we didn’t necessarily pointedly or specifically talk about those topics, it was the first time we were able to create without any barriers, and it just made the process a lot more fun.”

Brothers Osborne might be their fourth album, but they did things on the record that they had never done, until now.

“We got to explore a lot more musically in the studio, and we felt like for the first time completely 100 percent us,” TJ said. “And I feel that the record reflects that. Usually, people do that on their first record, but we thought this is a new beginning for us, so between the change of the producer and a lot of the musicians and stuff, we just thought this was kind of a fresh thought. We’re gonna lean in more than we have previously and this is us, Brothers Osborne.”
