CMA Awards 2023: Lainey Wilson Wins Entertainer of the Year

The CMA Awards’ Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards is Lainey Wilson! The “Watermelon Moonshine” singer beat out Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood and Morgan Wallen to take home the night’s highest honor.

“This is all I’ve ever wanted to do,” an emotional Wilson said during her acceptance speech. “It’s the only thing I know how to do. It finally feels like country music is starting to love me back. I love it with my whole heart … Thank y’all for letting me be me.”

Wilson was the night’s biggest winner at the CMA Awards. Nominated for a total of nine, Wilson walked away with five trophies, including winning Female Vocalist of the Year, for the second year in a row, Album of the Year, for Bell Bottom Country, plus Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year, both for her “wait in the truck” with HARDY.

“This is for all of the hardworking ladies that I know, that I don’t know,” Wilson said when accepting the Female Vocalist of the Year trophy. “I see you. And also, I just wanna share something with you, for all you little girls watching, and for the ones that are here tonight too. It’s something that I’m doing. I’m getting up every single day and I’m looking at myself in the mirror and saying, ‘I’m beautiful, I’m smart, and I’m talented. I’m godly, I’m fearless.’ If somebody tells me I can’t do it, hold my beer. Watch this, y’all.

“We’ve been having to blaze trails from the very beginning,” she continued. And I just want to say, thank you so much for letting me be a part of that. And here’s to all the ladies who blaze trails every single day.”

Wilson moved from Baskin, Louisiana to Nashville with a dream of having a career in country music. Although that dream came to pass, in a big way, Wilson had several hard, lean years, but she refused to give up.

“I got here in 2011 in my little camper trailer, and it was 12 years August 1st,” Wilson previously recalled “But I feel like I’ve only had my foot in the door for a couple of years. Some people just show up to Nashville, and it just happens and that’s it. But I have always truly had the mentality of, ‘Okay, if this takes me longer, that’s fine.’ That means that I’m going to have longevity, that I’ll be here till the cows come home.”

Wilson will headline both her global Lainey Wilson: LIVE Tour, and her Country’s Cool Again Tour. Find music and tour dates at LaineyWilson.com.
