Craig Morgan is Recovering After Accidentally Cutting His Leg With a Machete

Craig Morgan is thankfully on the mend, after accidentally cutting his leg with a machete. The Tennessee native shared a couple gruesome photos on social media, revealing the accident occurred while he was at his Alaska home.

“Had to get stitches in my knee tonight due to a machete accident,” Craig said. “The nurses and doctor were amazing at the MatSu Vally medical center. Alaska is beautiful country but sometimes it’ll get ya.”

Craig is currently off the road, because of COVID-19. He just released a new song, “The Mask,” which was written before the coronavirus pandemic, but seems more timely now than ever, especially for healthcare workers.

“This is a song for all of the doctors, nurses, and first responders that are out there putting themselves in harm’s way,” Craig said (via Sounds Like Nashville). “We wrote it a while back, before the pandemic, but I keep coming back to this song. I have to think that when they walk into the hospital, that it’s scary, because it’s a lot to deal with.”

“I can only imagine that, like all of us, they put on a mask, a brave front, and do everything they can to make their patients feel secure and confident despite the heavy nature of the situation,” he added. “This is for them.”

Craig’s released his latest album, God, Family, Country, in May. The record includes both remastered versions of some of his former hits, as well as several new songs, including “The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost,” and “Soldier,” a cover of a Gavin DeGraw. song.

“When I’m making a new record, I have a list of three things that are important to me when I’m recording a song,” Craig shared on the Bobby Bones Show. “One, I feel like I only want to record material that I think radio could play. Not that they necessarily will, but I want them to have the mindset that if they hear a song and like it, they could go, ‘I could play this on the radio, and it would work with our listeners.’ Two, it needs to be a song that I can deliver. Delivering a Gavin DeGraw songs was one of the more extremes, because Gavin is such a great singer, and it’s such a different song than I’m normally doing, but I felt like I could.

“And third, it needs to be something that fans would enjoy, that would inspire them to buy the records and come to the shows, and that I like singing as well,” he added. “So this song met all of that, and on top of that, I felt like every line in this song truly encompassed the character of the serviceman.”
