Dolly Parton is opening up, for the first time, about one of the things she is known for most besides music: fashion. The Country Music Hall of Fame member announces the release of a new book, Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones, out on October 17.

Behind the Seams will include behind-the-scenes stories from Parton’s illustrious life and career, along with a reveal of her private costume archive. The book, which will be filled with photographs, will cover some of her most famous looks over the past six decades, including her high heels, wigs, make-up, stage clothes and more. The Tennessee native will also share the stories behind some of her outfits, including the now-famous bunny suit she wore on the cover of Playboy, clothing worn for her various film and TV roles, and more.
Parton has built quite the business empire for herself. In addition to her music, she has Dollywood, an impressive list of movie and TV credits, her line of Duncan Hines mixes and more. With all of her successes, the 77-year-old says that isn’t how she wants people to remember her.
“I’m very proud of the Imagination Library where we give books to children. I think that’ll be as big a part of my legacy as my songwriting and my singing,” Parton tells WSMV, speaking of her philanthropic organizaiton, which distributes free books to children all over the world. “I also always feel that when you get in a position to help that you should have a Christian heart, [like] growing up in my grandfather’s church, and giving and receiving. They’re both supposed to be done with an open heart and all that, but I just really feel like it’s important to give back, and we’re supposed to do that.”
Parton will also release the children’s book, Billy the Kid Makes It Big on April 25. Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones is the second book of a trilogy, which began with Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, out in 2020. Behind the Seams will also be available in audiobook form, from Penguin Random House Audio. The audiobook will be read by Parton, and include archival audio and music.
