Morgan Wallen’s ‘Thought You Should Know’: Story Behind the Song

Morgan Wallen just celebrated a three-week No. 1 single, with “Thought You Should Know.” Wallen wrote the song, which is from his latest One Thing At A Time album, with Miranda Lambert and Nicolle Galyon, marking his first — but likely not last — time Wallen wrote with Lambert.

“It was actually my first time writing with Miranda,” Wallen revealed on Breakfast Television. “I was already a huge fan of Miranda before I even came to town. It’s cool to have moments like that. But it’s also cool to experience not only success, but something that I’m super proud of with her. She’s awesome, She’s a great musician, great songwriter and I look forward to doing some more with her. Next time maybe she’ll bring her puppy brigade.”

Lambert celebrated a career first with “Thought You Should Know,” marking the first time she had a No. 1 hit as a songwriter.

“Proud to be a writer on a song about your mama!” Lambert said when the song landed at the top of the charts. “This is the first number 1 song I’ve ever had as a writer. We did good that day y’all. Cheers friends.”

Congrats Morgan Wallen on your number 1 song “Thought You Should Know”. Proud to be a writer on a song about your mama!…

“Thought You Should Know” is one of 36 songs on One Thing At A Time, all tracks that representing all that Wallen has experienced over the last couple of years.

“This record represents the last few years of my life, the highs and the lows,” Wallen said when the record was released. “It also brings together the musical influences that have shaped me as an artist – country, alternative and hip-hop. There are 36 songs on this album because we just kept exploring with fresh lyrics, music and production ideas and these are the songs that felt right to me. It was a blast to create, and I was so grateful to be back in the studio to lay this out for my fans.”

Wallen will embark on his One NIght At A Time World Tour on April 15, performing 39 dates in four countries, spanning two continents, including 17 stadiums, plus numerous arenas and amphitheaters. Ernest and Bailey Zimmerman will join Wallen for all dates, while HARDY and Parker McCollum will join the tour for select dates. Find music and tour dates at MorganWallen.com.
