Jake Scott Reflects on ‘Outrageous’ Headlining Lavender Tour [EXCLUSIVE]

Jake Scott’s debut album isn’t even out yet, but his music is already making quite an impact. The singer-songwriter is currently headlining his Lavender Tour, which is taking him all over the country, with fans clamoring to hear his music.

“It’s outrageous to me still,” Scott tells Everything Nash of his second headlining tour. “There is so much of me that’s still wrapping my head around the fact that this is real, because I grew up in Arkansas. I knew nobody who actually did music as a career. And so, to go to cities I’ve never performed in — like the other night we were in Phoenix, and I’ve never played a show in Phoenix. And there was a room packed full of people, singing every word to every song. And I was just like, ‘This is crazy.’ And then to be able to come back, and see the rooms get bigger and the crowds get bigger — it’s still just something that I’m wrapping my head around. I’m so grateful for it. It’s definitely not something I take for granted, but it’s been so much fun.”

Scott’s Lavender Tour includes a stop at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works on Tuesday, October 25. For someone like Scott, who revels in the music scene, playing in Music City feels a lot like coming home.

“It’s one of my favorite cities in the country,” Scott shares. “I go there all the time. I’ve never lived there, but it feels like a second home to me, ’cause I’ve just spent so much time there. So performing there is always so fun, because I see so many friends in the crowd. So many people who I have written these songs that I’m performing, I’ve written them with them, and they’re there experiencing a crowd of people experiencing the song that we wrote together. That’s just a really cool full-circle moment as a songwriter, but also for me as a performer with my friends to be like, ‘How cool is this?’ It’s just great.”

For a city that is notoriously hard for even the biggest acts to play in, the rising star is focusing on his excitement instead of the pressure of performing in front of a room full of industry people, people he might normally want to impress.

“Half the room is gonna be people who work in the music industry,” Scott reflects. “They go to shows almost every day of the week. So they sit in the back of the room, and their arms are crossed and they’re kind of unimpressed, you know? So I totally understand why. Last time I toured, we played Basement East, and I was really nervous going into that show, ’cause I was like, ‘I don’t know what this is gonna be like.’ But it was such a fun show. The crowd was super rowdy. Even the industry people were having a great time, dancing and singing along. So I was pleasantly surprised. I hope that’s gonna be the case this time around.”
