Kane Brown, ‘I Can Feel It’: Story Behind the Song

Kane Brown just dropped his brand-new single, “I Can Feel It,” out now. The song was inspired by Brown wanting to collaborate with an iconic artist, and someone completely unexpected within the country music genre.

“We started a new album and we didn’t know if we were going to bring another single from the last album, Different Man,” Brown explains to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “And then we got ahold of this one. I was going to play Stagecoach, I was going to headline and we were looking for a legendary artist to come out with us. We were talking about Phil Collins, we’re talking about Cher, just random people that nobody would think about. And so we went into the writer’s room in Canada the next day and we had Phil Collins on our mind.”

Brown knew as soon as he finished “I Can Feel It,” inspired by Collins’ “In the Air,” that the song was something special, but he didn’t realize just how special until he got into the studio with his producer, Dann Huff, who made the song come to life.

“We started writing this song and it happens every time. I’ll live with a song for months, a year and then release it as a single,” Brown says. “But once Dann Huff got a hold of this, I told him, ‘I want it live. I want you to bring it alive as if I’m… think of me being on the road on tour. I want to be able to hear that when we’re listening to this song.’ And he just brought the magic.

“I fell in love with it,” he adds. “I was thinking about opening the show with it, but then where do you go [from] there? The energy would be so high.”

Brown credited Collins as a songwriter on “I Can Feel It,” with Collins also giving his blessing for Brown to release a song that was so directly inspired by one of the rocker’s biggest hits.

“It’s a legendary drum fill and it’s a legendary song,” Brown explains. “There’s no way I could not do that. I’m the type of guy that I don’t like to screw anybody over. I feel like good karma is, that’s what’s going to keep you going in life. Even if it was a new guy that was working at a small store nobody knew about, I’d definitely give him writer’s credit. I’m just glad … Phil could have said no, so I’m glad that he let me use the song.”

The 29-year-old recently received the ACM International Award at the ACM Honors, an industry accolade that recognizes Brown for his global fanbase.

“It feels awesome being honored, especially for the International Award, just because me growing up, I didn’t really get to travel much as a kid,” Brown says of the award. “From Georgia to Florida is the farthest I went. And now I’m in Australia, Europe, Canada. It just feels amazing to have fans outside of the United States, let alone inside. I’m so proud of them, and just want to thank them for helping me get my music out there.”

Brown just announced his 2024 In The Air Tour, joined by an impressive list of opening acts, including  Chris YoungTyler HubbardCole SwindellJon Pardi and Bailey Zimmerman. Find “I Can Feel It” and all of Brown’s music and upcoming shows at KaneBrownMusic.com.
