Keith Urban is a singer, songwriter, producer and musician, among other titles, but his favorite role is being a dad. The Aussie and his wife, Nicole Kidman, are the proud parents to 11-year-old Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, nine, and says he can’t imagine life without them.
“The first thing is probably just having someone call you dad. I’m like, ‘Omigosh! I’m her dad! That’s amazing,'” Keth told UMG. “That’s probably the first thing to me. I mean, the different personalities that our two daughters have, that’s amazing. It’s such a long list I think.”
Keith was 41 years old when he became a father, and he thought he knew by then what it would be like, but he couldn’t have been more wrong.
“I think for the people that haven’t had kids – which I hadn’t for a long, long time. I didn’t have kids ‘til later on, and being around it is not the same as having them,” Keith noted. “I realize that it’s not something that can be explained until you actually sort of have it, so I’m glad I got to experience that.”
Keith has gotten to spend extra time with his girls, since they were home from the last few months of school because of coronavirus. Although he enjoyed his time with them, he admits homeschooling them wasn’t his strong suit.
“I decided I’m not very good at homeschooling,” Keith acknowledged on Australia radio station 101.9 Fox FM Melbourne.. “I should leave that up to the professionals. The kids have been good. We travel a lot anyway, so they’re used to that kind of thing. But I’m glad I’m not in charge of it, because I quit school at 15, and failed every subject, including music, which is really embarrassing but it’s true.”
Keith better soak up his time at home with his wife and children while he can, because he hints he will be all over the globe in 2021.
“We’re doing a world tour next year,” Keith previously told Australian radio station K-Rock. “We were hoping to start in Australia; I still hope we get to do that. But there’s nothing set right now –– I’m just hoping that we can do that. In the meantime, of course, I’m at work pretty hard on finishing The Speed of Now Part 1, and have got a lot of it done. It’s going really well.
“And actually, the lockdown has gotten me really, really closer, because I’ve got the studio here at the house, and I’ve been able to get in here and really get into it every day,” he added. “It’s extraordinary.”
Keith’s next album, The Speed of Now Part 1, will be released on September 18.
