Keith Urban Puts a Good Spin on Dysfunctional Relationships in ‘Messed Up As Me’ [LISTEN]

A new song is here from Keith Urban! The Grand Ole Opry member just released “Messed Up As Me,” a song he recently teased on social media.

“Let’s put it this way: most of us have been in dysfunctional relationships before, where there’s not a lot of compatibility, except for that one area where it’s so good you put up with all the rest,” Urban said of the song. “A phone call or a night out and you’re right back where you shouldn’t be.”

Urban also opened up about “Messed Up As Me” on social media.

“This song is about a relationship…should we call it a relationship ???” he wrote. “We’re calling it a relationship. It’s about two people who know they aren’t good for each other: it’s dysfunctional, makes no sense, it might even be toxic, but they keep going back because there’s one thing they’re REALLY good at !!!”

Urban recently released “Straight Line,” the first introduction of his forthcoming new record.

“‘Straight Line’ was just one of those songs that, it happened from a feeling in the studio, playing, and that melody coming and the lyric coming,” Urban shared with Everything Nash during a recent virtual media event. “The song just sort of grew. It just grew really quickly. There are two songs that are on this album that came from two days of writing with three of my buddies that I love writing with, and ‘Straight Line’ was the second of the two songs we wrote.”

Urban, who has yet to announce a 2024 tour, already said he can’t wait to play “Straight Line” in front of a live audience.

“I just loved the spirit of it,” Urban explained. “I think if anybody has seen us play live, this song for me captures a lot of that feeling of what I’m trying to create in the room that we’re playing in, the feeling I want people to have. I felt like ‘Straight Line’ has that feeling about it, and it seemed like a perfect first song.”

Although Urban has yet to reveal a title or release date for his new record, he did say that it was ready since last fall, waiting for the right time to share it with the rest of the world.

“It’s so frustrating sitting on so much,” Urban told Access Hollywood. “It is a whole album of new music that I’m jonesing to get out, but it won’t be until early across mid to next year.”
