Larry Gatlin, Dolly Parton + More Remember Lisa Marie Presley

Several country artists are speaking out about the tragic death of Lisa Marie Presley, who was 54 years old when she passed away on January 12, from a cardiac arrest. Presley was the only child of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley.

Larry Gatlin spoke about the close relationship he had with her and her family, since she was born.

“She had to almost will herself to be what everybody wanted her to be, which was a cross between Elvis and Priscilla, her mom and pop,” Gatlin told FoxNews.com. “Hard to hammer out your own identity when everyone wants you to be something/someone else. Rest in peace, sweet girl. Larry G, aka your diaper-changing babysitter, from long ago.”

Lee Greenwood posted a tribute, sharing a photo of him with Presley and Gatlin.

“The first time I met Lisa Marie, I introduced myself to her & she said, ‘I know exactly who you are. My father loved you & your music & he would be so proud of you today,'” Greenwood recalled. “She was very gracious to me. I’m saddened by her death – she had so much more life to live. Sending prayers.”

Dolly Parton penned a letter Presley’s parents, shortly after the news of Presley’s death was announced.

“Priscilla, I know how sad you must be,” she wrote. “May God comfort you at this time. Elvis, how happy you must be to finally have her home and to have her back with you. Lisa Marie, may you rest in peace. We all love you.”

The Oak Ridge Boys‘ Joe Bonsall shared a photo of Presley with her father, writing the lyrics to one of her father’s songs. “I keep hearing Elvis sing Memories,” Bonsall wrote, along with a few lines from the song. Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind / Memories, sweetened through the ages just like wine / Memories, memories, sweet memories.”

Charlie Daniels, Jr., son of the late Charlie Daniels, shared a photo of his father with Presley.

“Mom and I are saddened to hear about the passing of Lisa Marie Presley,” he wrote. “Our prayers are with her mother and her loved ones.”

Presley is survived by three daughters. She will reportedly be buried at Graceland, next to her son, Benjamin Keough, who passed away in 2020. A funeral date has yet to be announced.
