Lauren Alaina and Kane Brown, ‘Never Been In Love’: Story Behind the Song

Lauren Alaina and Kane Brown have a new song, out now. The two, who previously released “What Ifs’ together in 2017, are back with “Never Been In Love,” a song from Alaina’s forthcoming new Stages album.

Alaina wrote “Never Been In Love” with Ashley Gorley and Ben Johnson. The chorus says, “I, I’ve never been in love /  I swear I thought I was, but now it’s time the truth came out / Oh, I said it a thousand times / Now I know I was lying / I’ve never been in love ’til now.”

Alaina says the song is “about the stage of life I’m in now.” Alaina married Carm Arnold in 2024.

“I remember falling for my husband and feeling different than I’ve ever felt before,” Alaina says. “When you find true love and happiness, you realize how much you never had it in past relationships. I’m so excited to sing this song with my boy, Kane Brown. We’ve come a long way from those two kids singing ‘What Ifs’ ten years ago. It’s so exciting to sing this song to celebrate the love we have with our spouses and children.”

All About Lauren Alaina’s New ‘Stages’ Album

Stages will be out on August 28. The record includes her current Top 15 single, “All My Exes” with Chase Matthew, plus “Raining Whiskey,” and more.

“I’m fifteen years into a ten-year town and 31 years into a lifelong dream,” Alaina says of the record. “Stages represents every version of me along the way: the dreaming, the breaking, and, ultimately, the becoming. There’s something on this album for everyone, no matter what stage of life they’re in. Stages is letting everyone see behind the curtain of the girl in the spotlight. It’s a reflection of the moments that shaped me and the dream that carried me through. It’s always been the same dream, different stages.”

Lauren Alaina and Chase Matthew’s “All My Exes” Duet

Now happily married, Alaina wrote “All My Exes” by thinking about another relationship that didn’t end well. Fortunately, it did inspire a hit single.

“I wrote ‘All My Exes’ about a relationship I had that was, let’s just say not my best relationship,” Alaina tells Yahoo! Entertainment. “And we were fighting down on Broadway, actually. Everybody’s had a fight down on Broadway, right? If you’ve been to Nashville, you have.”

“I basically wrote this song about things that he was yelling at me and saying about me,” she continues. “And I was like, ‘Well, you know, I’ve heard this before. I’m not saying you’re right, but you are not the first to say this to me.’ It’s the classic, ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ song.”

Lauren Alaina On Being a Mother to Daughter Beni Doll

Alaina is also the proud mother to Beni Doll, who turned one in June.

“It’s crazy how fast it’s gone,” Alaina tells Entertainment Tonight. “But she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me, honestly. I had no idea how much I would love being a mother. She’s got little chunky cheeks, and her daddy’s big brown eyes.”

The Grand Ole Opry member is still touring, both on her own and opening for Darius Rucker, mostly with her daughter on the road with her.

“I’m so proud to be representing mothers,” says the singer “You can have it all. You don’t have to pick the career or the family, I hope, because it’s what I’m doing.”
