Lauren Alaina Reveals How Trisha Yearwood Made “Getting Good” a Duet

Lauren Alaina and Trisha Yearwood made musical magic together with the release of a duet version of “Getting Good.” The song, which is the title track of her latest EP, was already recorded, when Trisha offered to sing with Lauren on a song, after Lauren appeared on Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.

“She sang ‘Getting Good’ to me when we were in the kitchen and then afterwards I was like, ‘Thank you for singing my song. That was really cool,'” Lauren recalled to Everything Nash and other outlets. “And she said, ‘I’ll sing with you anytime. If you ever want me to sing a song with you, let me know.'”

Lauren knew as soon as she heard Trisha sing on “Getting Good” with her that she wanted to make it a duet, but waited about two weeks to ask her.

“I called her and said, ‘Hey, remember when you said that you would like sing with me sometime? Do you think you could do ‘Getting’ Good?'” Lauren shared, adding that Trisha said she would reach out to her team. “I called her on a Friday, I think, and she called me back Tuesday and said she would do it.”

Lauren might have just released Getting Good in March, but she’s already working on new music. The American Idol alum will release a new EP, Getting Over Him, on September 4.

“Music is my lifeline,” Lauren said of her new set of tunes. “Music literally pulls me out of everything I ever go through [career, heartbreak, family, self-worth, love] and I feel really empowered with this music. I feel like this music shows my personal growth and my emotional growth. This EP of songs is all about loving myself through other people not loving me and not staying with me.

“It’s about me being able to get back to that same confident girl I wrote about on Road Less Travelled and to hold on to that confidence,” she added, speaking of her debut album. “I get to celebrate that with this music and I am so excited. I can’t wait for the fans to hear it.”

Lauren has another duet partner on Getting Over Him: Jon Pardi, who sings with her on the title track.

“I’ve got a duet with Pardi on his album, and then he loved this one,” Lauren said. “His energy is so amazing. I can’t believe I have a rebound song – but I do.”
