Shania Twain Announces Release of ‘The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition’

It’s been 25 years since Shania Twain‘s groundbreaking album, The Woman in Me, was released. The record, which included hit songs like “Any Man of Mine,” “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” and “You Win My Love,” sold more than 12 million copies, skyrocketing the Canadian to superstar status. To celebrate the milestone anniversary, Shania just announced she will release a new set of tunes, The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition on October 2.

The CD set, according to a press release, will include “previously unreleased tracks, live recordings, and mixes that trace the evolution of an album that changed the way country music sounded.” 16 previously unreleased tracks, including five live versions, from her Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas residency, along with a “Shania Vocal Mix,” containing early takes of 11 songs from nearly a year before the The Woman in Me was released, will also be included

Shania announced the new set of tunes on Good Morning America.

“This is the album that changed my career and has brought me to places that I would never have imagined even in my wildest dreams at the time,” the singer said. “I had high hopes, but where I am today, 25 years later, at the time was unimaginable. So this is a real celebration year for me, celebrating coming out as a very independent, open minded, very bold in what I had to say.”

The Woman in Me also earned Shania a Grammy Award, for Best Country Album, but none of the accomplishments mean as much to the singer-songwriter as the way the fans reacted to her rule-breaking music.

“There’s so much more than the accolade that resonates for me,” Shania noted. “If you’re someone that grew up with the music, it’s really what has connected us over these last 25 years … it just stands the test of time.”

Shania knew when she released The Woman in Me that she was going against the norm, but she never could have imagined how much country music fans would latch onto her music.

“Women in their late 20s, 30s were relating to, not my defiance … but just sort of my confidence in being a very independent thinker and being bold about that and expressing that through music and video and fashion,” Shania explained. “I felt a camaraderie with female audience. The men were just having a really fun time enjoying the aesthetics. They were enjoying their own powerful women in their lives, and they were supportive about it.”

“Then those people had children, and they raised their children listening to this music and now those children are at my concerts, almost the age that their parents were when this album first came out,” she added. “I think the music just grew with the generations, or the generations grew with the music. I guess it’s both ways.”
