Terri Clark Is 'The Most Grateful' For Her Extraordinary Life and Career

Terri Clark is thankful. A Grand Ole Opry member, with a career that spans more than 30 years, Clark is counting her many, many blessings for the life she has now.

“I feel like the most grateful, lucky person in the world to have the life that I have, professionally and personally,” Clark tells the Winnipeg Free Press. “I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Clark spends a lot of time performing, both in the United States and her native Canada. But when she isn’t in a tour bus or on an airplane, Clark can most likely be found out on the water, doing one of her favorite pastimes: fishing. If there is a silver lining from the devastating pandemic in 2020, it’s that Clark developed a deep, deep love of the recreational sport.

“Obsessed is probably a better word,” Clark admits. “I got really, really, really into it. To the point where I’m tying knots on the bus … and watching muskie-fishing videos for hours.”

“It’s the one thing I can do where my brain shuts off and thinks of nothing more than the next cast,” she adds.

Terri Clark Praises Cody Johnson Ahead of Fall Tour Dates

Clark is joining Cody Johnson for a few tour dates this fall, a full-circle moment for both artists. Johnson sings “I Just Wanna Be Mad” with Clark on her latest Take Two album. He admitted that as a teenager, he had a Clark poster on his wall.

“He always has reverence for acts that have been around for a while, and helps expose them to a younger audience, and I really respect him for that,” Clark says. “And I appreciate that he’s letting me get out there and play my hits.”

Of all of her collaborations on Take Two, Clark admits that “I Just Wanna Be Mad” is one of her favorites.

“It felt great because I’ve been singing one side of this sentiment and conversation for so long now,” Clark says (via Country Now). “I’ve been the woman saying, ‘Don’t touch me. I just want to be mad for a while.’ But both people can feel that way at the same time in a relationship. And Cody and I turned it into a conversation between two people that are both asking for space, that are both feeling pissed off at each other at that moment. I think that that’s where I think the song took on a whole new light and really became a completely different version. I love the way it turned out.”

Terri Clark Receives the Highest Honor As a Canadian

Clark is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In 2025, she was appointed to the Order of Canada, the highest honor a Canadian can receive. Although Clark’s mother passed away in 2010, it was a dream she always held for her talented daughter.

“When I got the call from the Governor General’s office, you could’ve knocked me over with a feather,” Clark recalls. “I was just blown away and started to cry because I saw my mother’s face. And I wish she could have been there for that moment.”

When the news was announced, Clark said being appointed to the Order of Canada was her biggest dream come true.

“When I was a young girl growing up in Alberta, with my sights set on the Grand Ole Opry and the CMA, my mother would often talk about one honor being head and shoulders above the rest… the Order of Canada,” Clark said when the news was announced. “The highest honor our country can bestow upon a civilian. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to see so many dreams and wishes come true in my life, but this one is for her. To be included among the likes of Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, k.d. lang and so many more is truly humbling. As a proud Canadian, I can’t thank the Governor General of Canada enough for this appointment.”
