The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Announces Reopening Date

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has announced its reopening date! The museum, which has been closed since the middle of March due to the coronavirus pandemic, will reopen on September 10, with some new restrictions and guidelines in place.

“We closed March 13, and since that day we have been anticipating and preparing for the museum’s reopening,”  Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, announced. “The museum places its highest premium on health and safety. Because there has been steady improvement in the number of COVID-19 cases and a significant decline in transmission rates locally plus a decrease in new cases nationally over the past four weeks, we have decided to reopen.

“The museum experience will be slightly different—visitors will wear masks, practice social distancing, tour in smaller groups and enter the museum according to a pre-arranged, staggered schedule, and there will be no in-person programming,” he continued. “But our commitment to sharing the country music story has not changed.”

As part of the reopening plan, tours of Hatch Show Print and Historic RCA Studio B will resume in a limited capacity, while the Taylor Swift Education Center will be closed to the public for now. In addition to wearing masks, temperature checks will also be required for both staff and guests.

The temporary closure of the Country Music Hall of Fame resulted in more than 170 employees being laid off or furloughed, and more than $22 million in lost revenue by the middle of July. Through it all, the Country Music Hall of Fame remained committed to providing expanded online programming, while they looked forward to the day when the doors could safely reopen.

“That’s what makes us all redouble our efforts, continue serving, and continue moving forward, and make sure the museum is well-positioned for all times, even when times are really hard,” Lisa Purcell, Senior Vice President of Community Outreach, Education and Development at the Country Music Hall of Fame told Everything Nash. “This is definitely one of those times.”

Marty Stuart, Dean Dillon and Hank Williams, Jr. will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame later this year, during the annual Medallion Ceremony. Details on that event have yet to be announced.

All exhibits that were open when the Hall of Fame closed will be extended. While the official reopening date is on September 10, members of the CMHOF will be allowed to enter on September 9. Specific information about the reopening plan can be found here.
