The Grand Ole Opry Shares Updated Plan to Reopen

Some disappointing news for Grand Ole Opry fans. The venue just announced that, after hoping to be open for audience members in July, they will not reopen to the general public until August, at the earliest.

“To align with Metro Nashville health and safety guidelines amid current COVID-19 concerns, the Grand Ole Opry has cancelled performances that include a live audience through August 7,” a statement reads at Opry.com, adding that they are selling tickets for August shows, even though those plans have yet to be finalized.

“While we are unsure when ticketed shows will return, presently tickets are on sale for shows starting with August 8,” the statement continued. “We continue to be hopeful these shows will take place as planned.”

Earlier in the month, the Grand Ole Opry originally announced that they would allow guests in July, before amending that statement to indicate that they were hopeful that they would be able to have an audience next month.

“We continue to work to resume Grand Ole Opry shows with live audiences as soon as we can do so aligning with the re-opening guidelines of Nashville,” the Grand Ole Opry previously stated. “When shows with a live ticketed audience do return, we plan to start slowly, having shows one night per week on Saturdays. Assuming all goes well, we would expand to additional nights.”

The Opry might be closed to the general public for their weekly Saturday night shows, but they are reopening for backstage tours.

“Your safety, and the safety of our artists and team are our first priorities at the Opry House,” the Opry announced earlier this week. “We’ve put measures in place at every guest and staff touchpoint to ensure that your experience is safe and fun, whether you join us for a tour or a show. And we have the support from our team at Ryman Hospitality Properties to make sure that we have the very best safeguards and training in place so that you can feel good about your visit to the Opry House.”

Guests participating in the backstage tours will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Jimmy Buffett was scheduled to perform this Saturday night, along with Brad Paisley and Mac MacAnally. The “Margaritaville” singer later announced he was canceling his appearance due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. According the Opry’s calendar, posted online, Jimmy will be replaced by Keb’ Mo’. Mac has also canceled his appearance as well.
