Thomas Rhett Calls Being at Home Because of COVID-19 a ‘Blessing in Disguise’

Thomas Rhett planned on being on his Center Point Road Tour over the summer, which unfortunately had to be moved to 2021, due to COVID-19. The Georgia native hasn’t had this much time at home with his family before, which is why he is soaking up every moment, even the mundane ones.

“We’ve just been finding new ways to get outside,” Thomas shared with BMLG. “We’ll go swinging in the hammock, we’ll go walk in the woods. We’ll play in the pool, we’ll go to Chick-fil-A’s drive-through. I mean honestly, walking to the mailbox has kind of been the highlight of our days, most days. And when you have kids during this time you definitely have to figure out new ways to allow them to have fun while also kind of exercising their brain.

“To me, it’s been kind of a blessing in disguise to be able to hang out with them and get to learn them a little bit better, because on the contrary I would be on the road,” he added. “But now, I get to be at home and wake up with them, go to sleep with them, and just finding new ways to have fun with them.”

With four-year-old Willa Gray, two-year-old Ada James and four-month-old Lennon Love all at home, both Thomas and his wife, Lauren Akins, admit life is anything but quiet right now — not that he minds, at least for the time being.

“I think me and Lauren have learned that our life is chaos right now, and it’s just a season,” Thomas told CMT‘s Cody Alan, adding that his home a “chaotic mess.” “But, it’s been really cool being home with them. I mean, right now, I would be getting ready to get on a bus to go play our first show, which is really sad that we aren’t doing that. At the same time, I get to be home with my girls and get to watch them grow and get to watch them do things for the first time that I would have missed.”

Thomas is also using his time at home to be creative, which he didn’t necessarily anticipate when he found out he would have to stay off the road.

“During quarantine, I mean it’s been 60 something days, I’d probably say I’ve written 35 to 40 songs,” Thomas revealed. “I just feel like any kind of change in life can spark a new idea, and especially the same for your co-writers, because they’re going through the same stuff too So, there’s definitely no shortage of ideas during this time and I do feel very creative.”
