Thomas Rhett Finds Unexpected Perk of Being Home Due to Coronavirus

Thomas Rhett had big plans of being out on his Center Point Road Tour right now, which unfortunately had to be canceled due to coronavirus. Still, the Georgia native has found an unexpected perk of being forced to stay home: the ability to create more music.

“During quarantine, I mean it’s been 60 something days, I’d probably say I’ve written 35 to 40 songs,” Thomas revealed to his record label. “I just feel like any kind of change in life can spark a new idea, and especially the same for your co-writers, because they’re going through the same stuff too So, there’s definitely no shortage of ideas during this time and I do feel very creative.”

When Thomas does sit down to write a song, he keeps his three daughters –– Willa Gray, Ada James and Lennon Love –– in mind with everything he pens.

“I hope that our kids think we’re remotely cool when they’re 25 years old,” Thomas previously stated. “Most kids don’t. But we definitely keep that in mind. All these guys can tell you, when I’m writing a song and there’s a line that doesn’t fully represent my ethics or my morals, then it [isn’t] gonna be in the song.

“I just want to make sure that when my kids do hear my songs there’s nothing that they can go to school and say, ‘Well my dad said do that,’” he added. “You know what I’m saying? That would destroy me, I think.”

Thomas is also enjoying time at home with his wife, Lauren Akins, who he says was made to be a mother.

“She’s definitely calmer than I am,” Thomas boasted. “I kind of get anxious a lot with our kids, like, ‘Is this okay that they’re doing this?’ And Lauren’s just like, ‘Honey, she is two. She is fine.’ But I think that’s just kind of like the perfectionist in me just wanting to make sure I’m doing everything right. She’s a very good, laidback mother.”

Thomas’ latest single, “Be a Light,” includes Reba McEntire, Keith Urban and Hillary Scott, A portion of the proceeds go to the MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund,
