Thomas Rhett Praises Lauren Akins’ Role as a Mother: ‘She’s Definitely Calmer Than I Am’

Thomas Rhett is praising his wife, Lauren Akins, for the exceptional mother she is to their three children: four-year-old Willa Gray, two-year-old Ada James, and two-month-old Lennon Love. The 30-year-old says Lauren especially excels in one aspect of parenting, which he is trying to learn from her.

“She’s definitely calmer than I am,” Thomas shared with Big Machine Label Group. “I kind of get anxious a lot with our kids, like, ‘Is this okay that they’re doing this?’ And Lauren’s just like, ‘Honey, she is two. She is fine.’ But I think that’s just kind of like the perfectionist in me just wanting to make sure I’m doing everything right. She’s a very good, laidback mother.”

Thomas may think Lauren is a calmer parent than he is, but he still calls being a dad to his three girls his most important role, which is why he is always thinking of them when he is writing songs.

“I hope that our kids think we’re remotely cool when they’re 25 years old,” Thomas said. “Most kids don’t. But we definitely keep that in mind. All these guys can tell you, when I’m writing a song and there’s a line that doesn’t fully represent my ethics or my morals, then it [isn’t] gonna be in the song.

“I just want to make sure that when my kids do hear my songs there’s nothing that they can go to school and say, ‘Well my dad said do that,’” he added. “You know what I’m saying? That would destroy me, I think.”

Thomas just released “Be a Light,” which features Keith Urban, Reba McEntire, Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott and Chris Tomlin. A portion of the proceeds of the MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund. Download or stream the song at ThomasRhett.com.
