Tim McGraw has two new songs, out now. The 59-year-old just released the personal “Pawn Shop Guitar” and “Song for America,” the latter in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
“This is the first new music I’ve put out in over a year. It’s no secret that over the last few years I got sidelined with back and knee issues,” McGraw says. “That time was challenging on so many levels, but one of the positive things that came out of it, aside from physically being back to 100 percent, was that it gave me time to reflect on my life and to write songs. I was able to really dig into some personal stories in those songs for the first time.”
The Message in Tim McGraw’s “Pawn Shop Guitar”
“Pawn Shop Guitar” is also the title of McGraw’s upcoming tour, kicking off in July. The song says in part, “I came to Music City with some songs / Burning a hole in my pocket / They slammed the door in my face / But I kept on knocking / Another cowboy on Broadway/ Sleepin’ in my car / With the whisper / In my pawn shop guitar.”
“This one means a lot to me,” McGraw shares on social media. “It goes back to where the dream started and ended up feeling like the perfect name for the tour.”
The Message in “Song for America” by Tim McGraw
Douglas also wrote “Song for America,” penning the patriotic tune with JT Harding. The song says, “This is a song for America / 9/11 scars and freedom screams / This is a song for America / Dashboard drummers / Girls of summer / And six-pack dreams.”
“Pawn Shop Guitar” and “Song for America” aren’t the only songs McGraw has out now. He is also part of “McArthur,” along with HARDY, who wrote the song, plus Morgan Wallen and Eric Church. “McArthur” tells the story of four different generations of men, including two who have passed on. HARDY wrote “McArthur” with Chase McGill, Jameson Rodgers, and Josh Thompson.
McGraw begins “McArthur” by singing, “My name’s John McArthur and I work this dirt / Till they lay me down in it in my one good shirt / I kept my family fed with a mule and a plow / I’m a whisper in the wind through the pine trees now.”
Tim McGraw To Be Inducted Into the Country Music Hall of Fame
2026 is shaping up to be a pretty incredible year for McGraw, who will also join the Country Music Hall of Fame this fall. McGraw will be inducted along with Paul Overstreet and bluegrass pioneers, The Stanley Brothers.
“Well, it’s the highest honor you can get,” McGraw tells Country Now. “I think other than marrying my wife and having our three daughters, nothing beats this. I mean, this is something that I don’t even think you dare to dream about. And you certainly don’t think it’s going to … Even ten years ago, I never thought that this would happen, certainly not in my lifetime.”
