Toby Keith Announces ‘100% Songwriter’ Album, Out in November

A new album is coming from Toby Keith! The country music icon announces the release of his new album, 100% Songwriter, out on November 3. The 13-track record features some of his biggest hits throughout his 30-year carer, all songs written entirely by Keith.

In 2022, Keith announced he was battling stomach cancer, taking some time off of the road to work on his recovery. But now, the 62-year-old is, fortunately, on the mend, and ready to focus on more music, and hitting the road again.

“I feel better; I’ve got more wind,” Keith told The Oklahoman (via Music Mayhem). “And I’m thinking about bringing the band in and setting up, playing two or three days somewhere just to see if I can get through two hours. And if I do, (I’ll) be out on the road this fall.”

Keith’s last album, Peso In My Pocket, was released in 2021. He wrote five of the ten songs on the record, four of them by himself, including “Happy Birthday America.”

“There were 5000 boats tied up out there and they started playing — all the boats had radios synced to the same radio station, so you could hear the same thing all across the lake, ’cause it was synchronized with the fireworks,” Keith said of the inspiration behind the song, while on Fox & Friends. “‘Courtesy of Red, White and Blue’ came on and everybody was honking their horns and screaming and singing, and it was a big, unison thing. I was like, ‘Wow.’

“Fireworks were going off,” he continued. “It was in the middle of last summer and this country felt like a dumpster fire about then. I was like, ‘Wow, this is pretty neat.’ I said, ‘Happy Birthday America, whatever’s left of you.’ I was running a few days later and I wrote that song.”

Keith will be honored this month with the People’s Country Icon Award, at the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards. Keith has been announced as one of the performers as well, along with Blake Shelton, Kane BrownCarly PearceHARDYJelly RollDan + ShayKelsea Ballerini,, and the show’s hostsLittle Big Town. Wynonna Judd, who will receive the Country Champion Award, will also perform.

The People’s Choice Country Awards will air live from the Grand Ole Opry on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 8:00 PM ET on NBC and Peacock.
