Watch Luke Combs Perform ‘Six Feet Apart’ on ‘Good Morning America’

Luke Combs is always a songwriter, even during a pandemic. The North Carolina native just penned a song, “Six Feet Apart,” about social distancing due to coronavirus, which quickly became a viral hit.

“I’ve been sitting around the house for a few months, just as I’m sure everyone else has,” Luke told GMA host Michael Strahan, prior to his performance. “Me and my buddies had scheduled a day to write. We weren’t able to obviously meet up in person. We texted the night before. We wanted to write a song, just saying the way we were feeling, but we also didn’t want to come off as corny or cheesy, or taking advantage of a bad situation. I’m hoping that we struck the perfect balance.”

Luke co-wrote “Six Feet Apart” with Brent Cobb and Rob Snyder, who actually already had the title when Luke approached them about writing about the way life had changed because of coronavirus.

“They actually sent me an idea that they had, and the title was ‘Six Feet Apart,'” Luke told The Tennessean. “We were kind of on the same wavelength, without even talking to each other (about it). The next day, it felt like it wrote itself, really.”

One thing Luke is doing while staying home is finalizing wedding plans with his longtime girlfriend, Nicole Hocking. The two, who plan on tying the knot later this year, fell in love long before Luke was one of the reigning superstars of country music.

“We were down in Florida for a songwriter’s festival,” Nicole said on the Couple Things podcast. “We were both single. I was leaving a songwriters’ round and he was walking up late to it, and he was by himself. I was like, ’Come hang out with us.’”

“I looked bad, too,” Luke remembered. “I was wearing camo gym shorts from Walmart. Classy stuff. And the oldest t-shirt that I owned, probably.”

A wedding date has not been announced, although Luke has said they will continue with wedding plans, even during the coronavirus pandemic, Download or stream “Six Feet Apart” at LukeCombs.com.
