HARDY and Lainey Wilson performed one of the stand-out performances during the live broadcast of the CMA Awards. The two singers gave a theatrical performance of their current duet, “wait in the truck,” complete with a vintage pick-up truck on stage.
With two powerhouse vocalists, HARDY proved himself an easy contender for a Male Vocalist of the Year nod in 2023.
Both HARDY and Wilson have new trophies after this week. HARDY was named Songwriter of the Year at the BMI Awards, while Wilson won two CMA Awards, for Female Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year.
“wait in the truck” quickly became the most-added song at country radio when it was released. While HARDY, who wrote the song with Hunter Phelps, Jordan Schmidt and Renee Blair, said it was the best song he ever wrote when it was released, he never expected it to have such an impact with so many people, so quickly.
“Country radio, you guys are freaking incredible,” HARDY said. “Thank you so much to the ones that added this song. Amazing. No. 1 most-added. Incredible. Thank you guys. I’m very, very excited about this song. I’m just excited to see the run it’s gonna have, to see the impact it’s going to have on people’s lives, and a lot of that has to do with you guys, so thank you very much. I’m excited to see y’all out there.”
HARDY knew he had struck songwriting gold when he wrote “wait in the truck,” but even he admits he was blown away when he heard the finished product for the first time.
“It hit me so hard the first time I heard the demo back, and no other song had done that before,” HARDY said prior to the release of “wait in the truck.” Very excited for the world to hear the song, excited for the song to give people a platform to maybe speak out about stuff that might be going on in their own homes. Thank you to Lainey Wilson for doing this song with me – she crushed it, she crushed the music video, I just can’t wait for the world to see this and I can’t wait to play it live.”
