Tenpenny, who is celebrating his own recent No. 1 hit with “Truth About You,” also spoke out about the industry accolade.
“Awesome news to wake up to!” Tenpenny said when the nominations were announced. “Chris is one of my best friends and it’s just so cool to have this success with him. And [Chris] DeStefano’s talent is unmatched. So honored to share this with both of them. This week just gets better every day!”
“At the End of a Bar” is Young’s final single from his 2021 Famous Friends album. The song almost didn’t happen, due to inclement weather. Fortunately, a snow storm wasn’t enough to deter the writers from getting together, which resulted in the hit single.
“Me, Mitchell Tenpenny, and Chris DeStefano had this date on our calendar, but it had completely iced-over in Nashville,” Young told American Songwriter. “I’ve tried to explain it to people who aren’t from here, but Nashville is not prepared for that at all. It happens, like once every three or four years and it shuts down the whole city for a couple of days. But this time, by day three, it was more snow than ice and you could get out of your driveway—so, we decided to do the session.”
Tenpenny served as the opening act on Young’s 2021 Famous Friends Tour. The rising star currently has a Top 40 single with “We Got History,” from his latest This is the Heavy album. Young also has a Top 40 hit, with “Looking for You,” from a forthcoming new project.
