2023 ACM Awards: HARDY and Lainey Wilson Win Music Event Of the Year

HARDY and  Lainey Wilson have another ACM Award to add to their growing collection. The two, whose “wait in the truck” collaboration previously earned them a trophy for Visual Media of the Year, also won the ACM Award for Music Event of the Year.

“Thank you, Lainey,” HARDY said of the honor. “You absolutely killed it. There was never a doubt that you were always the one to make people believe this song. I’ve said this in every interview, that she sings the song with conviction, and it makes people believe it, so, therefore, they resonate with it. So thank you everybody for resonating with this song, especially something of this subject.”

“I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to this,” added Wilson. “I just want to say, first of all, thank you, HARDY, for asking me to be a part of something so special. I think it’s really important to sing about things that are hard to talk about, and this is a song about real life. I didn’t want people to relate to this song, but it is true, a lot of people do. This one’s for y’all. We appreciate you so much.”

“wait in the truck” became the fastest-rising single of HARDY’s career. The song is from his latest the mockingbird & THE CROW album, out now. From the very beginning, HARDY knew he wanted Wilson to be part of the song with him.

“Some names got passed around and talked about, on the business side of things,” HARDY said late last year. “But Lainey — and this might not sound the right — but she is that person. She is a country girl, and her voice is so authentic. And so when she sings that, and when she shares that lyric, I believe every single word of that. And I knew that, before I even asked her if she wanted to be a part of it.

“I knew that Lainey would be the one that everybody would believe,” he added. “And when you believe it, you’re convicted. And her voice, it was always gonna be heard. She said yes, and we haven’t looked back since then. It’s been awesome.”
