2023 CMT Music Awards: Jelly Roll Wins Male Breakthrough Video of the Year

Jelly Roll has a CMT Music Award! The Tennessee native won the trophy for Male Breakthrough Video of the Year, for his No. 1 hit, “Son Of A Sinner.”

“They let a loser win tonight, baby,” Jelly Roll said when accepting his trophy. “They let a loser win tonight. I wanna thank my record label, Stoney Creek. I wanna thank my management. I wanna thank my beautiful wife, Miss Bunnie DeFord. This is more than an award. First of all, this is for the fans, baby. The only fan-voted awards show in America. This is for the underdog, baby. This is for the losers and the have-nots. God takes the impossible and makes it look small. Let’s go, baby.”

Jelly Roll recently announced his first full-length country album, Whitsitt Chapel, would be out on June 2.

“This album is about growth and gratitude happening in my life,” Jelly Roll said. “I wanted to create a project that felt hopeful. I believe the worst feeling a person can have is feeling hopeless or worthless. This is therapeutic music. Real music for real people with real problems,”

In addition to working on music, Jelly Roll has also been working on his health, especially as he spent the first part of 2023 off of the road.

“I’m going to spend the first couple months of the year just focusing on family and health,” Jelly Roll told Music Mayhem. “I lost some weight this year in 2022, but in 2023 I wanna finally conquer the demon. I don’t leave for a big tour until about the middle of the year. So I plan on taking the first half of the year to tighten the album up and get some work in.”

Jelly Roll will embark on his Backroad Baptism Tour in July, joined by a rotating list of opening acts, including Ashley McBrydeChase RiceStruggle Jennings, Caitlynne Curtis, Elle King, Merkules, Three 6 Mafia, Yelawolf and Josh Adam Meyers.
