Jason Aldean is opening up about “Songs About Us,” the title track of his latest album. The song, written by band members Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy, along with John Edwards and John Morgan, features Aldean’s good friend, Luke Bryan, on the track.

“My initial thought was, ‘Songs About Us,’ Luke and I have been friends in this business for a long time,” Aldean says. “He and I are from the same part of the world, Georgia, grew up listening to a lot of the same music. Honestly, in my mind, I’m thinking our songs, my songs, his songs — over the years, they’ve influenced a lot of people, too. 

“And when he starts singing, there’s no doubt — he brings a presence to it,” he adds. “I’m always looking for something to do like that, that makes sense with him, especially. And this was just one of those things that hit and made sense. And there’s a reason that it’s the title of the album.”

When releasing his Songs About Us album, Aldean shared why it was important to him to have Bryan on the song.

“[We] grew up with a lot of the same influences of music and playing a lot of the same clubs with these songs that were soundtracks to our lives,” Aldean tells his record label. “We felt like they were singing these songs about us. They were songs that we could relate to. And over the last 20 years, I think Luke and I, our songs have probably been the soundtrack for some other kids’ lives over the years.

“And so, he was the one that just kind of made sense for me to pull him on and be a part of this one,” he continues. “Really cool song that I think is gonna be one of the highlights of the record, which is why we named the album that.”

What Jason Aldean Says About His ‘Songs About Us’ Album

Songs About Us is Aldean’s 12th studio album, and one of his most personal. The 20-track record includes the No. 1 singles, “How Far Does A Goodbye Go” and “Don’t Tell On Me,” his “Easier Gone” duet with his wife, Brittany Aldean, a poignant and personal song,“Help You Remember,” and more.

“You want to make albums, and you want to feel like you’re moving the needle or not doing what you did on the previous album,” Aldean says. “And I think this album is probably a little more personal than a lot of the stuff we cut in the past. Songs like ‘Help You Remember,’  going through family stuff with that song on both sides of our family, my side of the family, and my wife’s side of the family, dealing with dementia and those kind of things.

“It’s really kind of hit home, and our family pretty tough, and so we wrote this song,” he continues. “And things like that, just letting people in a little bit on stuff that’s personal to us and our family. Obviously, having Britt sing on one of the songs, I mean, haven’t done that.”

Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan’s Co-Headlining Double Down Tour

Aldean and Bryan will play the second of four shows on their co-headlining Double Down Tour this weekend, in San Diego, California, on Sunday, August 16. The two announced the tour after they co-headlined a show together at Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia.

“Luke and I have each been at this, career-wise and as friends, for over twenty years, and have gotten to hit a lot of milestones along the way,” Aldean says. “We’ve gotten to share the stage plenty of times over the years, and playing UGA was just a preview of what’s coming for the rest of these shows.”

“If our time in Georgia was a barometric measurement of what’s ahead, these shows with Jason will make it one of the best touring years of my life. And the fans will hopefully feel the same way,” Bryan adds.
