Alexandra Kay Channels Taylor Swift With New Song, ‘Skip This Part’ [WATCH]

Alexandra Kay might sing about sweet romance in her song, “That’s What Love Is,” but she has another side as well. The Illinois native shared a clip of a new heartbreak song,  “Skip This Part,” captioning the video by saying, “I present to you the most Taylor Swift inspired bridge I have ever written.”

“Skip this Part” says, “Can we skip to the part / Where you’re lying awake / And you realize that you / Made the biggest mistake / So you get in your car / And you speed down my street / And the rain starts to fall / And you fall to your knees / And I run down the stairs, down the drive / In bare feet / And you tell me that you haven’t slept in a week / And I jump in your arms / And it all fades to black / But I’m still in your car / And you don’t love me back  / Can we just skip this part.”

Kay shared the song while performing in her curling iron, while she is on the road. The singer-songwriter recently shared another song, “I Kinda Don’t,” inspired by her own feelings when she met her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend.

“I think it is such a mature take on that situation,” Kay says of the song, which she wrote with Ryan Robinette and Tana Matz. “Everybody’s been in a situation where they’ve had an ex that dated somebody else. And most of the time, that’s very uncomfortable. In the actual, real-life situation that I wrote about, it was very uncomfortable. But then the person was so sweet, and beautiful and kind and everybody loved her. Nobody had a bad word to say about her. It’s really hard to hate her.

“And so we really based the story on, if I were to see her in a bar, and this was a totally different situation, I feel like we could totally be friends,” she adds. “But there’s always going to be that wedge between us, in the fact that we both loved the same person.”

Kay has been performing all over the country, after spending the first part of the year opening for Tim McGraw on his McGraw Tour 2022,

“I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity,’ an emotional Kay said in a video posted on YouTube after the tour wrapped. “I’ve worked so hard over the years, and there were so many parts of me that thought that I’d never get here. I’ve gotten a life’s worth of lessons in the last two months … I really thought that I would feel like a chapter’s closing, but it really feels like one’s just starting.”

Kay’s tour schedule includes stops in New Jersey, Kentucky, California and more. “Skip This Part” is available to pre-save here. Find music and tour dates at AlexandraKayOfficial.com.
