Bill Gaither on Postponing Events Until 2021: ‘We Have to Take All the Necessary Precautions’

Bill Gaither is speaking out about canceling two events, due to COVID-10. The gospel music mogul made the decision to postpone both the Gaither Vocal Band Reunion, first scheduled in April before initially rescheduling for August, and the 2020 Family Fest in the Smokies, until 2021.

“The health of our friends who have supported our events for 50 years is more important to us than anything,” Bill said (via CCM magazine). “We pride ourselves in hosting events where we can be close to those attending. We love meeting the people, giving hugs and signing autographs. Unfortunately, there would be no way to do this in the current climate. We have to take all the necessary precautions to keep people safe.”

“This was a very difficult decision but one we felt had to be made,” added Gaither Management President Gina Brisco. “The COVID19 pandemic continues to be a serious challenge to Gospel music fans everywhere. Out of the abundance of caution for the health and safety for both the fans, staff and our artists we have decided to cancel Family Fest in 2020 but can’t wait to see all of you Memorial Day weekend 2021.

“For 30 years we have loved gathering together to present the Gaither Family Fest event,” she continued, “and we realize this is a disappointment to everyone who loves the music of the Gaither Vocal Band and our Homecoming friends.”

Bill has previously spoken out about life during the global coronavirus pandemic, encouraging others to cling to their faith in the times of uncertainty.

“I think what this has done has got us back to the basics of what’s important,” Bill told One Country. “There are two points of life when we get serious – one is when a baby is born and the other is when we are faced with death. Otherwise we are in LaLa Land. This threat has gotten us out of LaLa Land and turning to God once again.”

“Life probably won’t be the same after this, but we are a part of a wonderful country that always seems to come together during times like this,” he added.
