Caroline Jones is back with new music. The multi-talented musician just released “Lawless,” a song she wrote with Pete Good and Brandon Ratcliff. “Lawless” is the second track released from her forthcoming new album, scheduled to be released this fall.
“Lawless,” which Jones describes as a “cross between Keith Urban and U2,” was also produced by Jones, along with Brandon Hood and Ric Wake. With both the lyric and the production, Jones worked hard to make “Lawless” both fun and catchy.
“The fact that the song never goes to the one chord, or the tonic, creates a feeling of being constantly suspended, or ‘on the edge’, as the lyrics read,” Jones tells Holler Country. “By extension, the sonic landscape evokes the images in the lyrics: ‘Lawless’ compares love to the Wild West, in which desire, desperation and dreams rule. I love the line ‘You care so damn much you couldn’t care less,’ which captures the out of control, both terrifying and electrifying high that is devotion.”
Jones previously released “Keep It Safe,” her collaboration with Alyssa Bonagura, from her new record. In addition to working on her solo career, Jones is also part of the Zac Brown Band. After playing with the group for several years, founder and lead singer Zac Brown invited her to officially be part of the award-winning group. Being part of the Zac Brown Band is both an honor and a privilege Jones didn’t take lightly.
“I’ve never been a side-man before,” Jones told Everything Nash. “I’ve always been kind of the steerer and leader of my own ship. But I’m a real music nerd. I love instruments. And so this gig is a real reach for me as a musician, because these guys are such incredible musicians. So, having the responsibility and the honor of playing other people’s songs and music instead of your own, it’s like a masterclass on stage every night.”
For Brown, it was an easy decision to make Jones a permanent member of his band.
“It feels like Caroline has been part of Zac Brown Band for years,” Brown told Entertainment Tonight. “She has done a few tours with us and has also been in the recording studio creating with us. She is family and a badass musician. She sings the highest and works the hardest.”
