Carrie Underwood Is Soaking Up Time at Home With Her Boys in 2020

Carrie Underwood will likely never have another year like 2020, in more ways than one. The Oklahoma native, who was just crowned the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year with Thomas Rhett, has been home for most of 2020, due to COVID-19, and is soaking up every minute with her husband, Mike Fisher, five-year-old son, Isaiah, and 18-month-old, Jacob.

“We’re really lucky,” Carrie shared on the Today Show. “We have some space around us, so we have been utilizing that space. We’ve been outdoors a lot. It’s starting to cool off outside. But it’s been good, and they’re adventurous little boys. It’s great for us to all be able to get out. I’ve never been in one place for this long, for the past 15-plus years of my career.

“It’s been really great to just really get to know them and watch them grow,” she added. “Especially Jake, who’s 18 months old. It’s such a critical time in his life, and I’m never going to get it back, so we’re just trying to enjoy it.”

Carrie’s tie with Thomas for the Entertainer of the Year category marks the first time in the show’s history that a tie occurred in that category — just another sign of how unusual the year has been.

“We kept asking the accounting firm, ‘Are you sure? Are you sure?'” Carrie recounted. “It’s also the year of strange things happening. It’s not a bad thing. I’m more than happy. Thomas is a great guy, and this year makes it special.”

Carrie just released her first Christmas album, My Gift, which includes a collaboration with Isaiah on “Little Drummer Boy.”

“I was in the booth with him, and trying to get him to access all his little five-year-old emotions, which he can totally do on his own,” Carrie admitted, adding that she might have been a bit of a “stage mom” throughout the day. “When I heard the song back with his sweet little voice on it, I was laughing and crying. Just so many emotions. I’m so proud of him.”

“The gift of music is such a blessing in my life, and I really want to give that gift back to Jesus,” she continued. “It just seemed to make sense to me. Isaiah did such a great job on that song. I was the proudest mom in the world.”
