Chase Rice Debuts ‘I Hate Cowboys’ on ‘Good Morning America’ [WATCH]

Chase Rice debuted his new song, “I Hate Cowboys,” on Good Morning America. The song is from Rice’s upcoming new album, I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go To Hell, out on February 10.

Ahead of his performance, Rice revealed to GMA host Michael Strahan what “I Hate Cowboys,” which he wrote with HARDY, Brad Tursi and Ross Copperman, is really about.

“It ain’t about hating cowboys, obviously,” Rice explains. “My dad was one. It’s more about a guy that’s being better at the game than you. He walks in the bar, sees your girl. And if a guy walks into the bar with a cowboy hat and looks confident, you better hold your girl close.”

Rice will kick off his Way Down Yonder Tour in March, which he says will be unlike any of his previous tours.

“A lot of this album,” Rice reveals on Good Morning America, when asked what fans can expect from his new tour. “I’ve never had an album come out — usually you’re like, ‘I’m gonna do two or three songs off of the new album.’ This one I’m going to be playing it all. And then I’m going to play ‘Eyes On You,’ ‘Drink a Beer,’ ‘Lonely,’ a lot of the hits. But this album is going to be what they’re mostly going to hear.”

Rice previously said that I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go To Hell is the most authentic record he has ever released, which is why his father, Daniel Rice, who passed away in 2008, is on the cover.

“My dad’s going to be the album cover,” Rice told Everything Nash. “I’m not going to put an album out with my dad on the cover — he’s not around anymore — unless I think the music would make him proud and be up to that standard that he would have in anything in life. So this is good stuff.”

The 37-year-old tries to honor his father, not only with his music, but his life as well, with his dad’s influence permeating everything he does.

“My dad was one of those good guys you read about – tough, hardworking, always helping other people out,” Rice said in a statement. “I try to live my life in a way that would make him proud. I haven’t always measured up to that, but I get closer to that man I want to be and the man he’d be proud of every single day.

“Making this album was a big step towards that musically, too,” he continued. “Not only is it the most vulnerable I’ve ever been, it’s also something he’d enjoy listening to and is full of stories I wish I could tell him. I’ve always wanted to honor him by using this photo as an album cover, and I know this project is the one that deserves that. I can’t wait for y’all to hear it.”
